Name of Assignment: Fishpond
Subject: Community Engagement
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Ford
This assignment we traveled to the fishpond and helped to repair their wall and learned about its history in the past and the troubles it has today.
When doing this project I used Civic Literacy and Engagement. I had to participate in a restoration activity of a local landmark and learn about the history of my community locally.
From this project, I am most proud repairing some parts of the wall. I did not move many rocks because they were very heavy and slippery

The most challenging part of this task was that the fishpond did not supply us with the proper equipment to life the and stand on the slippery rocks. In addition, the tide was also very high instead of being very low like how it was on Monday. This made it really challenging
If were able to redo this project today, I would bring grippy gloves and a good pair of underwater shoes because lifting the rocks was dangerous because they kept slipping out of my hands and I couldn't get a good grip.
I developed my civic literacy and engagement skills by participating in a restoration activity of a local landmark and learn about the history of my community.

This essay was somewhat similar to the beach cleanups that I had done in the past for community engagement, but it stepped it up a little.
Applying the knowledge learned from the fishpond won't be easy, but I think it could be applied if I learn about Hawaiian history.
