Description of Work/Assignment: Socratic Seminar is a scholarly discussion between a group of students to discuss different claims. Each student gets a chance to share their claim with the rest of the group. The rest of the group will then talk about wether their claim is valid using evidence to influence their decision.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? This assignment addresses interpersonal skills the most. Socratic seminar require students to work effectively and respectfully with a team of individuals to make conclusion about a variety of different topics.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am very proud of my performance in during our seminar. This was my first time participating in a socratic seminar and I was able to communicate my ideas effectively with the rest of the group. It made for a very enjoyable conversation.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult thing about Socratic seminar is rebutting to someone’s claim without interrupting them. I had a tough time saying what was on my mind during this discussion because someone else was talking. It was hard to time the things you were going to say before someone else went and said it. How could you improve this work? If I could improve this work I think I would redo my second claim. I was not aware that the second claim could be anything that you wanted. That claim was about something related to the topics that we had been learning in class but it could have been about anything else. I think I would have made my claim about something entirely different. This project was similar to the Socratic seminar that I did in Field Ecology the previous year. It was almost the same thing.
